Membership

We have several different ways someone joins this body of Believers known as Bellevue Baptist Church. Scripture leaves no doubt that it is God’s intent for believers to fellowship and worship together. If you have any questions about membership please feel free to contact us and we will gladly help.

I’ve never belonged to any church.

A New Testament Church is made up of believers in Jesus Christ only. The first requirement of membership is to have trusted Christ as your Savior. Scripture affirms that “as many as receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name.” Further, scripture affirms that for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

You can do the right thing now by saying to the Lord, “Lord Jesus, I believe you died for my sins and right this moment I receive you as Lord and Savior of my life. Make me the person that you want me to be.” Making Jesus Lord is to give Him control of your life. After you make this decision we ask that you let others in the church by walking down the aisle during our time of invitation. You have the promise of the Lord, “Him that comes unto me I will in no way cast him out, ” (John 6:37). Jesus does not cast you out and neither will those at Bellevue.

Following this decision, you need to be baptized by immersion, into the full membership of our church family!

I belong to another Baptist Church.

Every Christian should have their membership at the church where they are currently worshipping and serving. Since church membership is essentially fellowship, one can only be in true fellowship where he or she can worship and serve regularly. Thus, we invite you transfer your “letter” to our fellowship. This is known as joining by letter.

My letter is unavailable

For various reasons a letter may be unattainable. Just because your letter is unattainable does not mean you should delay joining our fellowship. All you need to do is come forward and say that they wish to join by statement of faith and briefly your particular circumstances. This is called “joining by statement of faith.”

I belong to another denomination

If you believe as we do and who wish to consider joining our fellowship this is the information you need to know:

We believe that a person is saved by placing his or her trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who died on the cross to save us from our sins (1 Peter 1 : 18 – 19) The next step after salvation is to follow the example of Christ and the New Testament Church in being baptized by immersion. Baptism is not a sacrament, but a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6 : 4 – 6). It expresses our faith in Christ alone for salvation.

As candidates for baptism, coming from another denomination in no way implies that you are not already a Christian. If your belief is the same as ours, we shall welcome you to be baptized and become a member of Bellevue. Simply make your desire to be baptized know during the invitation time at one of our worship services.

I’m still not sure about joining.

If you still have questions we suggest that you arrange a meeting with the pastor who will gladly help to answer any questions you may have.
